Storm Active: August 27-28
On August 24, a tropical wave moved off the coast of Africa and began a crossing of the tropical Atlantic. Conditions were marginally favorable for developement; the system managed to organized and become a small tropical storm on August 27, earning the name Dolly. Dolly was moving very quickly westward, and faced high wind shear as it approached the Caribbean; such conditions had dominated the Caribbean most of hurricane season up to that point. The storm's forward speed of nearly 25 mph in high shear made it very difficult to maintain a closed vortex. Late morning on the 28th, satellite observations indicated that Dolly had opened up into a tropical wave and dissipated.
